My name is MXL I started DJing in 1999 at the age of
13, I got into this through my dad as he was a mobile DJ at the time.
In the year 2000 I was raving it up down the Sanctuary, London, and
Birmingham I grew a big passion for drum and bass. The whole scene amazed
me and I wanted to be involved. Taking over my dads Technics I decided
that would be the path to take, especially being a female I thought
I could bring something different to the scene. I joined a course at
the Roadmender which was run by a group of people called the Pedestrians,
on this course I learnt turntablism and how to use the turntable as
an instrument. Once I had successfully completed this course I then
knew the basics of being a DJ. From then onwards I would practice in
my bedroom making mix tapes to send to different promoters. The style
of drum and bass I play and love is jump up strictly party music! Artists
that I would be drawn to were Zodiac, Hazard,Orginal Sin and many more!
My DJ name comes from Miss Xtra Large! I then got my first booking in
April 2003 at a bar in Kettering. These bookings helped me gain experience
in playing to an crowd and also gave me the chance network with others
in the Drum and Bass scene. It was this year I then started getting
booked at a night called Breakup which was the main Drum and Bass night
in Northampton at the time, with DJs such as Logan D,Mickey Finn,J Majik,Kenny
Ken headlining. From then onwards I was getting to play out on a regular
basis. In 2004 at the age of 16 I still wanted to learn more about the
music industry so I did a National Diploma in Music Technology at college.
This gave me an insight into how drum and bass was made, the production
side of things. This course gave me the opportunity to create live studio
mixes onto CD and create my own tracks. My next move was to then carry
on promoting myself to gain more bookings. As the years have now gone
on I am now at the age of 23 and have played in many different towns-:
Northampton, Kettering, Leicester, Wolverhampton, Coventry, Grantham,
Worcester, Evesham,Poland to name but a few. I won the Next Generation
Competition run by Raveology. That gave me the chance to play in Birmingham
at the Drum and bass awards 2007 primeset in room2. I also came 2nd
in the Legacy Cash Showdown and won £100.I am now a part of Random
Concept Academy and was nominated in the "best female DJ"
catergory in 2009.Things are looking up and i now live with my parnter
Dj Deddlee - the pair of us have formed the DEADLYDUO and are working
on tunes and mixes together.....watch this space!!!
My Name is DJ Deddlee. I play jump up/upfront drum and bass!! I first
started dj-iing when i was 19 when a mate of mine got some decks and
encouraged me to do the same, it started as a laugh but i soon became
fixated on the idea of becoming a dj, while my mate on the other hand
decided to give up! I'm originally from london and got my first break
there from a friend i know in the lighting and production set ups of
well known raves across london. He put on a night of his own and i played
main room, 2hours with the famous Mc IC3. since then i have played in
various places in and around my home town of northampton - also venturing
to vauxhall, croyden, st albans, kettering and not forgetting the mighty
Q-Club in birgmingham..In my spare time when im not working i also participate
in an internet radio show (streamed from home) which involves myself
and my partner MXL otherwise known as (THE DEADLYDUO).
Our show is called 'ORGANISED CHAOS'
on WWW.QUANTUMRECORDINGS.CO.UK - every fortnight friday from 6-8pm.....
